VERMEER Interragator
Geophysical Survey Systems Inc. (GSSI), experts in ground penetrating radar and long-term client of Robert DeFelice & Associates (RDA), asked RDA to design a sleek, easy-to-use, ground penetrating radar (GPR) product for Vermeer Corporation, manufacturers of heavy-duty outdoor equipment. The GPR is pushed across the ground to detect objects and perform ground survey.
Our sleek and rugged solution for Vermeer's Interragator included a 2-piece rotomolded housing that enclosed the radar equipment and battery. Rotomolding was selected because its molds are relatively inexpensive, parent molding material is high impact polyethylene, also highly resistant to outdoor weathering, and one molded part, cut in half, economically provided both housing pieces that were riveted together. A separate, pressure formed, hinged cover/door over the battery compartment was added. The surveyor's controls were attached to the tubular steel push handle for easy visibility and operation.
We provided a complete package of handsome styling, mechanical engineering for the rotomolded housing, pressure formed door, tubular steel handle, packaging of internal components, COTS components, DFMA 3D and 2D manufacturing documentation and vendor recommendations.
