Robert DeFelice & Associates was asked to redesign Automation Unlimited's  (AU) ED70 epoxy dispense system to reduce manufacturing costs, add ergonomic features and improve sales appeal.  AU's system was over-engineered, expensive to manufacture, clumsy to operate and lacked sales appeal even in a factory environment.

 

Our imaginative, low cost MD100 Dispensing System solutions included (1) redesigned the tubular frame with smaller tubing, (2) replaced the expensive, 1/2" thick, aluminum jig plate, top surface for X-Y table, with an inexpensive Formica laminated table top (80% cost savings), (3) reduced welding and grinding costs by hiding weld joints behind smooth, sleek sheet metal panels and doors that also provided underneath storage for epoxy, (4) integrated a modular panel system above the work surface to accommodate different control devices, and (5) repositioned the operator's controller at 30 degree angle for improved ergonomics and visibility.
